Overview
Bishop’s Stortford Town Council is launching a community design competition to create a new official logo and tagline for the Town Council.
This winning logo and tagline will replace the current ‘Historic Market Town’ logo and tagline with a refreshed visual identity that better reflects Bishop’s Stortford today — its heritage, community spirit, and forward-looking ambition.
The initiative is designed to engage young people in shaping the town’s civic identity through creativity and design.

Who Can Enter:
The competition is open exclusively to:

Primary school pupils

All entrants must attend a school or college located within Bishop’s Stortford.
What We Are Looking For:

Incorporated within the logo design, or

Positioned clearly alongside it
A New Tagline
A short phrase to replace “Historic Market Town”.
The tagline can reflect:

A forward-looking vision
Design Inspiration
Designs may incorporate elements such as:

Recognisable buildings or landmarks

Community or cultural symbols

Abstract representations of identity or place
The design may be:

Hand-drawn

Computer-generated

Or a combination of both
Design Requirements
All submissions must be:

Scalable – Clear and legible at both large and small sizes

Flexible – Effective in full colour and in black and white
-
Suitable for Professional Use – The final selected design will be professionally refined by a graphic designer to ensure suitability for print and digital publication. The Town Council will retain full control over the finished design and copyright.

Terms and Conditions
BISHOP’S STORTFORD TOWN COUNCIL - Logo & Tagline Design Competition 2026
These Terms and Conditions apply to the Logo & Tagline Design Competition 2026 (“the Competition”) organised by Bishop’s Stortford Town Council (“the Council”).
All competition entries must be submitted by email to: shannon.ollinger@bishopsstortfordtc.gov.uk
By submitting an entry, participants and, where applicable, their parent/guardian and school, agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
1. Eligibility
1.1 The Competition is open exclusively to pupils and students attending a primary school, secondary school, or college located within Bishop’s Stortford.
1.2 Entrants must be enrolled at the time of submission.
1.3 Proof of eligibility may be requested by the Council.
1.4 Employees of the Council and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter.
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 Each entrant may submit one entry unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Council.
2.2 The entry must include:

A proposed logo design; and
-
A proposed tagline to replace “Historic Market Town”.
2.3 Entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not:
-
Infringe any third-party intellectual property rights;
-
Include copyrighted material without permission;
-
Contain offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate content.
2.4 Entries generated wholly or predominantly using artificial intelligence tools must be clearly declared at the point of submission. The Council reserves the right to determine eligibility of such entries.
3. Submission Process
3.1 All entries must be submitted by email to: shannon.ollinger@bishopsstortfordtc.gov.uk
3.2 Full submission instructions, including format and method of delivery, will be published on the Council’s official website.
3.3 The Competition opens in March 2026.
3.4 The closing date for submissions is 1st of June 2026 at 17:00. Entries received after the published deadline will not be considered.
3.5 The Council accepts no responsibility for incomplete, lost, delayed, or corrupted submissions.
4. Judging and Selection
4.1 All eligible entries will be reviewed by the Council.
4.2 Entries will be judged on:

Creativity and originality
-
Relevance to Bishop’s Stortford’s identity

Strength and clarity of the proposed tagline
-
Suitability for use across official materials
4.3 The Council reserves the right not to select a winner if, in its reasonable opinion, no entry meets the required standard.
5. Prize
5.1 The winning entrant will receive:
-
A £250 Discover Stortford Gift Card; and
-
Formal recognition from the Council.
5.2 The prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.
5.3 The winner will be announced in July 2026.
6. Intellectual Property and Usage Rights
6.1 By submitting an entry, entrants agree that, if selected as the winning design, full intellectual property rights (including copyright) in the logo and tagline will be assigned to the Council without restriction.
6.2 The Council reserves the right to:

Modify, adapt, refine, or redraw the winning design;
-
Combine elements of multiple entries;
-
Use the winning logo and tagline across all current and future media and formats.
6.3 The winning design will be professionally refined by the Town Council to ensure suitability for digital and print use.
6.4 Non-winning entries remain the intellectual property of the entrant; however, the Council reserves the right to display submitted entries for promotional or exhibition purposes unless an entrant explicitly requests otherwise in writing.
7. Publicity
7.1 The winner agrees to:

The publication of their name, school/college, and image for promotional purposes;
-
Participation in reasonable publicity activities relating to the Competition.
7.2 For entrants under the age of 18, parental or guardian consent will be required prior to publicity.
8. Data Protection
8.1 Personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.
8.2 Information collected will be used solely for the administration of the Competition and associated publicity.
8.3 Personal data will not be shared with third parties except where necessary for Competition administration or required by law.
9. Liability
9.1 The Council shall not be liable for:

Any technical issues affecting submission;
-
Any loss or damage arising from participation in the Competition;
-
Any indirect or consequential loss.
9.2 Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
10. Amendments and Cancellation
10.1 The Council reserves the right to:

Amend these Terms and Conditions;
-
Extend deadlines;
-
Cancel or suspend the Competition if necessary due to unforeseen circumstances.
