The Council manages over 600 allotment plots on 11 sites
The allotment rental year runs from January to December.
Plots of approximately 7 metres by 7 metres or 62.6 square metres and 10 metres by 12 metres or 125 square metres are available for rent.
Prices are as follows:
Fees for 2026 are 33p per square metres and as follows:
Residents - £41.25 per 125 square metres
Senior Citizens & Personal Independent Payment (PIP) Recipients - £20.62 per 125 square metres (First 250sqm only)
Non–Residents - £82.50 per 125 square metres (including Senior Citizens & PIP Recipients) within a 5 mile radius of Bishop's Stortford
New Tenant Administration Set Up Fee - £40.00
All our sites now have combination locks.
Fees for 2027 are 34p per square metres and as follows:
Residents - £42.50 per 125 square metres
Senior Citizens & Personal Independent Payment (PIP) Recipients - £21.25 per 125 square metres (First 250 square metres only)
Non–Residents - £85.00 per 125 square metres (including Senior Citizens & PIP Recipients) within a 5 mile radius of Bishop's Stortford
New Tenant Administration Set Up Fee - £40.00

Fees can be paid by cheque (made payable to BSTC), by bank transfer (details will be on the Tenancy Agreement) or cash, (if no other method is possible).
We regret we are unable to accept debit / credit cards.

Please be aware that there are waiting lists at some sites but you can download the Application form for an Allotment and view the Tenancy Agreement which will be completed by the administrator on allocation of a plot. New Tenants are permitted to take on a plot up to 125 square metres, and current Tenants may be able to take on another plot if there isn't anyone on their site's on the waiting list, up to a maximum of 250 square metres in total.
We have recently introduced the possibility to keep bees and hens subject to appropriate rules.

Membership costs just £3.00 per year & the allotment shop can be found at Ward Crescent Allotment site CM23 3QX on a Sunday morning.

The Best Kept Plot Competition 2025
Taking photos of the two best kept plots on each will be done by the Allotments Sub-committee during July.
The best on site and the best kept plot overall will be chosen by the Mayor in August.

The site winners will receive the first 125 square metres (5 rods) of their holdings free of charge for 2026, well done to you all.
The nominated plots were judged by the Allotments Sub-Committee and Mayor Richard Townsend judged the best on site and decided that plot 11a Barrels Down Road was the overall winner from all the best plots. The plot holder of the overall winning plot will also receive a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates and, from the BSAGA, a year’s Membership. Congratulations!!
